Built to close the gap other methods miss.

You’ve taken lessons, watched the videos. You’ve shown up every day. And still, there’s a ceiling you can feel but no one has ever named for you. A place your voice will not go.

That isn’t a talent problem. It’s a method problem. Most vocal training works on the surface, manipulating sound, layering habits, never touching the architecture underneath.

Other methods work the surface. The Cole Vocal Method works the source.

INTRODUCING

Trusted by Grammy winning singers.
Based in 40 years of vocal science.

A proven, results-driven method designed to master your voice, and give you the technical foundation to perform at any level — for life.

“When it comes to voice, Cari Cole is, without a doubt, the best in the business.”
~ Cindy Warden, former music executive

Cole Vocal Method outperforms other methods.

It addresses the source, not the surface.
Most methods adjust how you sound on the surface. CVM addresses improvements to sound by strengthening the physical core muscles of the voice through targeted biomechanical exercises that produce structural change.

It’s a complete system, not a collection of tips.
Every exercise advances on the last. The method moves through clear levels — foundation, intermediate, advanced — so you always know where you are and what comes next moving towards the ultimate goal.

It’s been pressure-tested at the highest level.
Forty years inside Manhattan’s vocal studios. Grammy-winning clients. Singers who tour for decades without losing their instrument. This isn’t theory. It’s the method that has worked, in real careers, for forty years.

Choose Your Path Into the Method.

Every path leads to the same place — a voice that is free, powerful, and engineered to last. The difference is how deep you want to go, and how fast.

The Cole Vocal Method is taught in Levels. Each level is structured to build on to the other
as you move through the foundation to mastery.

BUILD A VOICE YOU CAN COUNT ON — ALL WHILE ADDRESSING aspects of the MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT THAT OFTEN GO UNNOTICED IN VOCAL TRAINING

THE COLE VOCAL METHOD IS A COMPLETE SYSTEM

The Cole Vocal Method™ is a complete comprehensive system that dramatically improves the singing voice. Designed in a system, singers use specific movements and techniques to address the different states the voice is in. Through a meticulously structured curriculum, we address all aspects of vocal growth. The method moves singers through the process of freeing the voice, building true vocal strength, precision and conditioning to keep the voice healthy from the wear and tear of singing.

Based in Bel Canto, the Cole Vocal Method™ is the first complete method based on its principles that offers a health based and holistic approach to vocal training. Based in vocal science and vocal health, our method works for any voice, genre, and style developing the foundation from the ground up, filling in missing pieces or alongside an existing technique. The CVM is a complete vocal system practiced in intervals of 20 minutes a day to produce significant improvements in vocal sound and ease.

The CVM™ is a Complete Vocal
Method + System

Each section is structured to build upon the last as you move through the method. CVM addresses all of the aspects of voice-building and vocal health that singers require to achieve their potential and stay in shape.

“I now know exactly what to do to keep my voice in balance.” ~ Joseph Eid

history and philosphy

INSIDE THE COLE VOCAL METHOD

A world-class method

The lineage of the Cole Vocal Method™ traces back through three generations of vocal training, rooted in the traditions of Bel Canto – the art of Italian singing. Dr. Edward J. Dwyer, a pioneer in vocal science, laid the groundwork for this method by drawing insights from extensive research into the relationship between singing and human anatomy. Building upon Dr. Dwyer's foundation, opera singer Katherine Agresta further refined the technique, passing down its wisdom to subsequent generations.

Cari Cole, the visionary behind the Cole Vocal Method™, was mentored by an opera singer who imparted this vocal technique to many famous pop and rock singers such as Cyndi Lauper, Jon Bon Jovi, Steven Tyler, and more.

Determined to bridge the gap between classical technique and contemporary vocal expression, Cari became the first non-opera singer and teacher to expand upon this legacy, tailoring it for contemporary popular voices without the operatic sound.

Her approach revolutionized vocal coaching, attracting some of the biggest names in entertainment including Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, Courtney Love, Chrisette Michele, Diane Birch, Chelsea Cutler, Jeremy Zucker, Rainsford, and many contestants and finalists on The Voice, American Idol, Songland, and Grammy winners. More about the Founder.

WHAT SINGERS ARE SAYING

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Cole Vocal Method™ is a complete master vocal system rooted in over a century of vocal science and refined across forty years of work with professional singers. Unlike methods that focus on style, sound, or surface technique, CVM goes underneath. It strengthens the core muscles, corrects structural imbalances, and rebuilds the architecture of the voice from the inside out. The result is a voice that is free, resonant, and engineered to last, through tours, recording cycles, and the demands of a real career.

For decades, the vocal science behind world-class voices was locked inside the operatic world. Started with Dr. Edward J. Dwyer’s pioneering vocal science research, Cari Cole took the techniques to build into a method, translating the work for contemporary voices and developing the biomechanical framework that makes the Cole Vocal Method™ bring proven results to singers. The result: Grammy winners, chart-topping records, singers on The Voice and American Idol, and forty years of independent artists building careers, and voices, that last.

You may have studied other vocal techniques before finding CVM. Many singers have. The Cole Vocal Method takes a different approach from the start. Most vocal training adjusts how you sound on the surface. CVM rebuilds the architecture underneath, strengthening the core muscles and correcting the structural imbalances, so your voice no longer relies on tension or compensation to perform.

CVM trains the source, not the surface. Much of what it teaches is little known even among experienced singers. Few have ever worked on separating the tongue and larynx so each can function independently, and that is just one example of what becomes possible when you train the structure itself. This is why singers who have tried everything else often say CVM finally works, and why singers train with CVM for decades without losing their voices. It doesn’t ask you to imagine your way into a better sound. It builds the structure that produces one.

“Vocal training is so abstract and Cari’s system is so step-by-step. She breaks down the nitty gritty of how everything works. It’s so robust. It’s a life’s amount of knowledge in one package that you can use for the rest of your life.”
Meagan Sky, singer-songwriter

Yes, every one. This method began at the Metropolitan Opera, and it will not make you sound like an opera singer, but it will build your voice the way theirs are built. Opera training produces some of the most powerful and enduring voices in the world, and CVM brings that same foundation to your genre. It works biomechanically, with your instrument rather than against it, so your natural sound, your timbre, and your style are preserved and strengthened. Pop, rock, R&B, country, worship, musical theater, jazz, whatever you sing, the method builds the instrument and you bring the style.

No. Your sound will improve significantly. Your style stays untouched. The CVM strengthens your natural voice rather than replacing it. Just as an athlete trains strength and stamina to improve on their natural gifts, the Method improves the biomechanics of your instrument, bringing more tone, power, resonance, and freedom, while your unique timbre and style stay fully yours.

Yes. One of the best things about CVM is that it works alongside any other method or training. Singers find that practicing CVM strengthens the work they’re already doing, no matter what that work is built on. Because CVM is based in vocal science and trains the technical instrument, it only benefits any other method you’re working with.

It is built for serious singers at every level and in every genre. That includes touring professionals whose voices need to hold up night after night, singer-songwriters whose instrument has not caught up to their artistry, singers recovering from strain or injury, and vocal coaches who want to teach from real science. If you have done the work and still feel a ceiling you cannot explain, this was built for you.

“I am no longer getting hoarse or losing my voice. I have struggled with this for my whole life!”
Charlotte Beerda, singer and actress

CVM has supported singers working through vocal loss and vocal health conditions, including MTD, nodules, and polyps. The method is based in vocal science, promoting correct muscle patterning and core exercises that reduce inflammation and support recovery. Level I includes vocal therapy exercises as a core component, to help ensure your voice is functioning at optimal health.

The Cole Vocal Method develops the voice through four progressive stages. Each stage builds directly on the one before, so the instrument is strengthened in a deliberate sequence from the ground up.

Essentials.
You begin by releasing the tension and compensatory habits working against the voice, opening a clear and natural vocal path, and establishing the daily practice the rest of the method is built on. The instrument becomes freer, more responsive, and ready to build. This stage lives in the Singer’s Gift Vocal Warmups and the CVM App.

Level I: Foundation.
The work moves into the instrument itself, building genuine strength in the deep core muscles of the voice. Compensatory patterns are replaced with true vocal function, so the voice becomes steadier, more consistent, and structurally sound across the full range.

Level II: Intermediate.
The intermediate layers of the method strengthen the instrument further, developing the power, control, and endurance required for exceptional, repeatable performance under real demand. It is here that singers who intend to teach begin formal training in Cole Vocal Method pedagogy.

Level III: Advanced.
At the advanced level, technique is refined to its finest points. The focus shifts to the finishing elements of vocal production: precise control, tonal nuance, and complete command across dynamics, registers, and style. The instrument is fully integrated and performs with total reliability.

The CVM has three levels. Each level builds on the one before it. Level I is where all singers start, regardless of experience.

Level I: The foundation of CVM. Our App (app.caricole.com) starts you with the Essentials stage, covering the first half of Level I, and the Vocal Freedom Circle (caricole.com/vocal-freedom-circle) carries you through all of Level I from start to finish. Level I is also revisited at the start of the Vocal Mastery Program.

Level II: The intermediate level of CVM, taught inside the Vocal Mastery Program. Enrollment opens this October.

Level III: The advanced level of CVM, taught inside Vocal Mastery Program III. Enrollment opens this October. Level II is a prerequisite for Level III.

Level I can be studied two ways. You can start inside the Vocal Freedom Circle, where the course is self-guided and you move at your own pace, with live calls included as a supplement for extra support and feedback. We recommend starting here to get a head start, since Level I covers a lot of ground and is worth sitting with before you move on.

Level I is also taught live at the start of the Vocal Mastery Program, so if you’re brand new to CVM, you can join VMP directly this October and learn Level I there, rather than starting in the Vocal Freedom Circle first.

“Cari is the master of vocal technique. Her exercises are fabulous, and they give you the freedom and agility for your voice to soar. I highly recommend the Vocal Freedom Circle if you want to take your voice to the next level.”
Bec Leigh, singer-songwriter

Level II is the intermediate level of the Cole Vocal Method, and it lives in Vocal Mastery Program II, a one-year live program taught on Zoom with Cari Cole personally. This is where your voice builds resonance and agility, strengthens the belt, and smooths the passaggio, so you gain strength, range, and endurance across the bridge. The program covers 190+ exercises across Levels I and II.

It opens once a year, each October, and the first three months include a complete review of Level I taught live, so even if you have not learned the Foundation yet, you can start here and learn Levels I and II together. From there you go deep into the intermediate work, with real-time feedback on your voice every week. If you teach, the optional CVM Vocal Coach Certification track is available with Level II. Visit the Vocal Mastery Program page for full details, dates, and enrollment.

“I’ve had overnight shifts that opened up my voice to something I didn’t even know was possible. I’m not afraid of the high notes anymore. I have extreme breath control. I went on tour and didn’t have any problems with my voice. I am a life-long devotee of Cari Cole and her Cole Vocal Method.”

Level III is the advanced level of the Cole Vocal Method, and it lives in Vocal Mastery Program III, the deepest training Cari teaches. It carries you into more than 150 advanced exercises not taught in Level I or Level II. This is where you develop true mastery: big power notes, long held notes, riffing, speed, flexibility, higher range, and the finishing techniques that polish a professional voice. It is a full year of live Zoom training, with a Master Certification track for coaches. It opens each October, and the prerequisite is completion of Vocal Mastery Program II.

“I have been studying classical singing for over 20 years and before the Cole Vocal Method, I always knew something was missing from my voice. Cari’s expertise completely transformed my voice. I have more clarity, more tone, and I’m really excited for the future. It has changed my voice forever.”
Natasha Hardy, classical singer

Yes. It’s recommended that all singers start with Level I, regardless of experience. You’ll want to start here to set up your voice with the correct muscle patterning and movement at the foundation. Level I establishes the core positions that every higher level builds on. If you’ve worked extensively with vocal coaches and want a placement assessment, the Vocal Assessment Quiz can help: caricole.com/vocal-assessment-quiz.

Yes. Inside the Vocal Freedom Circle, live calls are included as a supplement to your self-guided Level I study, so you can bring questions and get feedback as you go.

The Vocal Mastery Program II and III go further, with three live classes every month. Two are Masterclasses, where Cari teaches the method and introduces new exercises as you progress. The third is a full 90 minute Monthly Coaching Call, dedicated to workshopping your voice, answering your questions, and solving real vocal issues in real time. You’re on camera, Cari is on camera, and you can open your mic to be coached directly. You choose how you take part. Step in and get coached in real time, or simply take it all in at your own pace. There’s no pressure either way. Most online programs never offer this kind of access. You’re not watching a course. You’re being coached. Enrollment opens for both VMP’s II & III every year in October.

The Method is built for focused, consistent practice of about 20 minutes a day, five days a week. Many singers feel a difference in their tone and range within the first couple of weeks. The deep, structural gains arrive over about six months of consistent work.

Yes, CVM works right alongside them. Whether you have a vocal coach or train with another method, singers find that practicing CVM strengthens the work they’re already doing, no matter what that work is built on. Because CVM is based in vocal science and trains the technical instrument, it only benefits the training you already have.

The CVM App is your home for daily vocal practice, right at your fingertips. It’s built around warmups and cooldowns, voice building and vocal therapy, breathwork and release sequences to decrease tension and strengthen your singing voice. Built-in practice tracking keeps you on a streak and shows your progress over time. It works on any smartphone or device with a browser. No download required.

How is the CVM App different from other vocal training apps?
Most vocal apps are built around pitch and feedback. You sing, and the app tells you whether you hit the note. Others are warm-up tools or lesson libraries organized around finding your range. They can help you practice, but they don’t build the instrument itself.

The CVM App builds your voice with a real method. It’s the home of the Cole Vocal Method, a complete technique system grounded in decades of vocal science and biomechanics that trains the actual muscles and structure of your voice. This is a serious technique app, for a singer serious about their voice. It builds the voice, not just the practice around it.
