Fast Forward Fame

Why is it that some people become famous and others, no matter how talented they are, never reach the limelight? Is there a doled out portion of fate, the hand of God or destiny? (Sigh…) Do you have a say in it? Is it connections and/or being at the right place at the right time? Is it strategic – planned out and charted – or just plain luck – or a blend of the two? What can you do to increase your chances?
Over the years of working with thousands of artists and watching fame happen right in front of me, the one thing I know for sure is you have to believe it can happen in order to call it to you. Call it the Law of Attraction if you want, but deep unconscious beliefs run the show. If you want to know what you really believe – look at your life. It is the sum total of your true beliefs. If you want to change what you believe, you’ve got some work to do (don’t we all?). The second thing I know for sure is you have to have the goods. I do know for sure that confidence comes from doing the work. You can’t skimp on this one. Beyoncé, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin (and the list goes on and on and on)… they study and train to push the limits all the time – it never stops – famous stars work their craft to the bone. And on top of that, having talent is not all you need. You have to know how to create your product (persona and music), package it, brand it, hitch up a great team and create massive social proof (1,000,000 views or 50,000 in record sales will get you a record deal today). These days you have to earn your place as an artist and a business to get in the spotlight – it certainly won’t come to you.
The third thing I know for sure is you have to have a plan. No one ever gets there without charting their course. There has to be a plan – and a damn good one. The truth is, there is a path and a system to becoming a star – and you have to learn it.
