You Will Never Be Perfect

“Hi. My name is Cari and I’m a recovering perfectionist…”

If there’s a #1 trap that I see artists fall into that destroys their careers it’s this –

Trying to be all-perfect.

Cut it out!

Madeleine L’Engle said, “Perfection is exhausting.” Actually, I’m a recovering perfectionist. It wasn’t until I started allowing myself to be okay with flying by the seat of my pants (and getting over my incredibly detailed self-conscious brain that interrupts me all the time, telling me I should do it BETTER) that I was able to make progress in this area.

The logical side of your brain says no one is perfect. But once you get attached to a goal – a dream that causes an aching in your heart until you actually reach it – the voice of fear gets louder.

And fear causes paralysis — inaction.

And when you stop taking action in your career, your hopes and dreams come to a screeching halt.

This is particularly true for music artists.

See, it’s all about building momentum. Taking daily actions (the most important actions) is imperative if you want to build your career.

Here’s your homework for the week:

Starting today, write down the next three most important actions you need to take (or have been putting off) that directly affect your career in the biggest way. Do this every day for the next seven days.

Your list of three should be actions that could potentially have the greatest impact on your career.

What have you been putting off doing that is really important to your career? Who have you not been getting back to or reaching out to?

1.
2.
3.

And remember – there are no right or wrong answers on this assignment – the only objective is to complete it!

I repeat – your mission is to complete your actions by the end of the week.

Come on – you can do it (I’m cheering you on!) And feel free to share in the comments below.
