Vocal Wisdom for Singers: Is Your Technique Holding You Back?

Vocal Wisdom for Singers: Is Your Technique Holding You Back?

I bet you know that you have a gift. Musicians don’t pursue music unless they know they have something. I bet you also have good taste. But you know that you need more than innate talent to become a world-class singer. So you’ve tried various techniques and maybe forked over big money for a vocal coach. But you’re still falling short. And you lay awake at night and the doubt creeps in and you wonder if you’ll ever get there. Sometimes you even feel a little like giving up.

But deep down, you know that music is your calling.

So how different would your life be if you could dramatically improve your voice?

I wonder if your vocal technique is holding you back? Even a little?

I was one of those singers who had a natural voice. I could not only carry a tune, I had a pretty good resonance and in my late teens I sang pretty every Joni Mitchell song she ever wrote. I sang all the time. I never took actual voice lessons.

But when I moved to New York and joined a rock band, I noticed I started having trouble with my endurance. It was one thing to sing over an acoustic guitar, but singing over a loud rock band was a completely different experience and I knew i needed help.

As a singer, vocal technique isn’t another box to check off your to-do list. It is the answer to vocal success.

What if I told you that I have an elite vocal training, much like training with an Olympic coach that allows you to strengthen the mechanics of your voice without altering your style – is holistic so it takes into account your vocal health and your whole body and soul – and all you need is 20 minutes a day – we’ve organized the entire system for you in a METHOD that gets results. It’s a proven method that works for hundreds of thousands of singers, Grammy winners and world-class performers.

One of the amazing things about this method is that it strengthens your existing voice and adds to it – it doesn’t take anything away. It doesn’t take away your style, which you need as a modern singer. This technique actually makes you stronger – it’s your anchor cementing in your foundational strength and precision. It’s a solid technique that supports your performance and singing with more emotion and power. Technique is the anchor that allows your voice to fly.

If you are struggling with elements of technique, you won’t be able to fully concentrate on your performance. If you want a quick assessment of your vocal health, click here to get my Free Vocal Health Quiz.

Here’s my Quick Checklist of some of the most important technical elements of your voice.

Some of these may be familiar to you, but most of this list was developed by my mentors and then evolved by my own practice over 30 years in New York City of working with professional singers.

This is for the singer who is wanting to improve their existing technique and build a world-class voice. For the person who may have tried some techniques in the past, but never really gotten where they wanted to be.

The Cole Vocal Method shortlist (some of the many elements of a world-class voice):

The Cole Vocal Method

  1. Diaphragmatic breath control
  2. Laryngeal depth + resistance to improve general vocal production, the passaggio and range
  3. Separation of the tongue and laryngeal muscles (advanced techniques to drastically improve vocal production)
  4. Vocal fold closure, development of vocal tone and control
  5. Development of the “Overtone series”
  6. True vocal agility, flexibility, power + strength
  7. Holistic vocal therapy, health + wellness to never lose your voice on tour or to recover quickly
  8. Speaking voice exercises to correct imbalances

All of this is and more is in my Cole Vocal Method that you will learn in my upcoming Vocal Freedom Circle. And the great thing about this method is that I have organized it into a 20 minute a day practice so literally anyone can do it.

Join us for our upcoming Vocal Freedom Circle 3-month Online Program where I will teach LIVE (not pre-recorded) my Cole Vocal Method. Participants will receive the body of the method, 70+ exercises on audio and video. It’s literally everything you will ever need to build a strong and healthy voice, as if you had trained for years. Qualified participants will earn a certificate for completing the program and this certificate is also a prerequisite for my upcoming vocal coach certification program.

Class starts on June 23! You don’t want to miss this!
