This month I want to talk about confidence – the quest for it and what often is underneath. I’ve been talking a lot here about actions and motivation and doing your daily …getting more disciplined… and about how to create goals and act on them. But if you find yourself sitting there with your lists, stickies and goals not really moving forward – in fact, you’re finding it way hard to get in motion >>> do you know why?
What keeps us from moving forward? What keeps us stuck?
When I’ve been stuck in my life or see my students stuck, I notice that it’s a lack of motivation is coming from a lack of confidence or faith that they can do it – or apathy that even if they try hard their dreams may fall flat.
In my own experience as an artist and musician >> when I don’t move forward it is usually because I’m afraid. Afraid that I’ll disappoint — me or my fans. Too often it is our fear that keeps us immobile >> frozen like a deer in headlights.
What are we afraid of? Sometimes https://startupsouth.org/buy-singulair-online/ it’s a fear that’s been inside for a long time — self esteem issues, a lack of self-worth, narcissistic wounding (people being unkind to you) – – often from childhood – – it’s a common thing for lots of artists. John Lennon was raised by his aunt – his mother left him… Madonna’s mom passed away when she was young – – and so on and so forth. If it isn’t actual abandonment, it was situations that were abusive or hyper critical and unkind of sorts.
As a result, artists strive to be heard and that desire is so strong they often become amazing at their craft so that are admired by many. But . . .underneath, the fear and the wounding is still alive, often painfully so.
What if there is another way? What if you turn and face your fear and build true confidence from within? This is one of the things I really work with my artists on – – to create a strong sense of self so that they can come from that place rather than the fear place.
