If you’re not together in your day to day life, you’re not going to be powerful enough to have an effect on others around you. So many artists make crucial mistakes in their career that have to do with being able to lead. After all, successful artists, whether they know it or not, are natural born leaders. Well, the ones that are really on top, that is.
Talk to any successful artist and they seem to have this ability to navigate, make their way where others don’t. They have an unmistakable ability to do their art AND do business. Matter of fact — they are flexible, but firm in their vision and know how to strategize and negotiate. All qualities of leaders.
The common problem most artists have is not recognizing these as important qualities and suffering from “I’m an artist and not a business person” syndrome.
Everything you do, including the way you speak with and to people, the small minutiae day to day decisions you make, are the ones to make or break you.
And hey, these are often learned qualities! Most of us are not natural born anything, but we can learn!
