A Healthy diet is the cornerstone to great vitality and health. If you want to improve your performance and your general vocal strength and agility, then what you put in your body will either nurture or defeat your purpose. Here are some specifics and I’ll continue with this list next week.
No Alcohol: Alcohol will dry your voice and body. Dry vocal cords are like singing with sandpaper in your throat. High notes will disappear and singing will be more difficult than usual.
No Drugs: There are very few drugs that don’t dry the throat. We are talking about prescription drugs now. This includes antihistamines (which are a big no-no – it is better to be wet and sloppy than dry).
Get plenty of sleep and relaxation
– Got to De-Stress!!
Reduce the stress in your life. It’s easy to do – just choose it. You can’t choose your circumstances, but you can choose your reaction to your circumstances and whether you want to be there or not.
- Say “no” to going out when you know you have to practice.
- Say “no” to taking on others needs when you don’t take care of your own.
- Learn to stay home when everyone is getting sick and get extra rest.
