The Metamorphosis of a Modern Musician, Part I

By Cari Cole

Metamorphosis. Also called transformation. A change in the form and often habits of an animal during normal development after the embryonic stage. Metamorphosis includes, in insects, the transformation of a maggot into an adult fly and a caterpillar into a butterfly and, in amphibians, the changing of a tadpole into a frog. In a human, the changing of an embryo into a human, in a music artist the transformation from a dreamer to a household name.

You’re good. But even more, you’ve got good taste.

That’s what got you in the game.

But in the beginning, what you’re producing doesn’t match your taste. This can be for years and even decades as you grow and develop. So much so, that not even your sister (or you) believe in you.

And then you start getting good. You start turning heads. Your voice, your songs… start touching people.

Then you jump in with both feet. You dial up social media, hit the web with some marketing dollars, tour, get some radio play and even open up for some big names. You’re ON IT. And you’re running on fumes trying to keep up with it all, but you’re EXCITED. You’ve never gotten this far before.

The dream is becoming real…

But you know there’s something more — something that if you can put your finger on – will hoist your name up there in the big lights.

The next song, the next album, the next video, maybe you’ll go viral – you hope and pray…

And hope is good, because you need that to do this. You need hope and vision and an obsessed mind and nature that keeps you at it day and night 24/8.

But it’s because you know that you can do it. You know it in your bones. You were MADE for this.

And guess what? You’ve got perfect timing.

Because it’s the time of the artist again. It’s what you’ve been waiting for for so long. It’s here.

If you look carefully under the surface of what’s happening to our world you’ll see that old structures everywhere are disintegrating. Walls are coming down, even if they are being torn down. And everything that comes with it, is falling away.

And when things fall apart, music emerges like that phoenix rising, like a beacon in the night. The light in the dark, forging the fight, creating the new future together.

So don’t hold you back — okay? Don’t lie to yourself and tell yourself that you can’t do it? Some crap like you’re not worthy, or you’re too old, or too young, or too skinny or too fat or you’ve got nothing to say? Cause that’s just a LIE. A big fat lie. And artists young and old prove it every day as they rise from the ashes. And so can you.

Hear me when I say —- this is your time. Rise to meet it.

It’s time for great music again. And you can be on the cusp of it.

It’s time for your metamorphosis. Tune your inner channel to your inner truth. Radiate it like a cosmic sun and never shut it off.

Light up my friends.

Stay tuned for my next blog on the next step of The Metamorphosis of a Modern Musician, Part II…

I love you. I am you. You are me. We are the future — right here — right now.
