The Problem With Dreaming Big

What do you want to be when you grow up?

It’s funny – I still ask myself that question. Artists never stop dreaming – it’s part of our very constitution.

The problem with “dreaming big” is that most musicians don’t actually know how to do it in a way that will assist them in reaching their goals.

Here’s what happens to most artists:

You have a dream.

You think about the dream.

You dream about the dream.

You obsess about the dream.

You realize you may not have the right tools or know which steps to take to make your dream a reality.

You start feeling fear because things aren’t happening quickly enough.

Your brain starts spinning with negative chatter and you spiral down – fast…

“Am I good enough? Will I ever be?”

Your heart beats faster.

“I suck. I’m never going to make it.”

You are stuck.

You curl up in a ball.

You stop taking action.

You stop dreaming.

And then you do it all over again.

I want to encourage you to never stop dreaming.

But I also want to give you the tools to actually make your dream a reality. Because in my experience, it can happen, real dreams do come true. I see it every day in my work with artists.

And it’s not about being lucky.

Because we make our own luck.

Dare I say that sometimes it’s not even about being good?!? (We ALL know some artists making millions who sell out and sound like crap.)

Over the next few weeks, I’ve decided to outline the steps to not only dream big, but to MAKE YOUR DREAM REAL – TANGIBLE. It’s the SAME process I teach my emerging artists and my celebrities who are trying to get to the NEXT level (yes, they have to uplevel too). And, it’s the SAME process I have used to build a successful company.

Here is Step 1 in my Dream Big Formula to help you tap in to your creative energy and make it all real.

Step One: Identify your Lifetime Goal

Now, this is actually harder than you think because most people won’t actually let themselves dream big enough. So, to do this, you’ve got to allow yourself the space to think big and be the creative being you were born to be.

No chains. No restrictions. Just close your eyes and let your mind go.

Now, imagine what’s possible for you. You are at the end of your life (in your golden years), looking back on your life.

What do you see?

Did you pursue your dream of music?

What was the one thing, more important than anything else, that you wanted to accomplish for yourself?

What mattered most?

Write it all out. Include all the details you can see.

Check in with me. Email me. Put one detail of your dream below in the comments or on our Facebook Page. Let’s get this conversation going!

Call it out. Own it.

As we say over here at Cari Cole and Company –

Dream it. Sing it. Be it.
