Anyone who’s spent any amount of time trying to “make it” in the music industry knows it can be a grind. Long days, hard work and sleep deprivation are all part of the job description in today’s music industry.
But putting in long hours does NOT mean you have to shred your vocal cords—an alarming trend among some of today’s hottest artists.
Unfortunately, last week country mega-star Miranda Lambert and Florence Welch of the hugely successful Florence and the Machine added themselves to the long list of uber-talented artists cancelling shows in recent months due to vocal health issues (joining the likes of John Mayer, Adele, Christina Perri and more).
In this article Welch was quoted as saying, “seriously I felt something snap” and subsequently cancelled at least two shows (although she’s set to perform again August 5 at Lollapalooza in Chicago). Welch blamed her vocal issues on too much caffeine and says she’s going to cut back. No word on whether or not the Machine will be consuming caffeine at its previous levels. 😉
Miranda Lambert is well known for her tough girl image. Even a tornado couldn’t slow her down when she recently performed in Wichita, Kansas. Now, however, she too has cancelled shows, citing vocal health issues.
The saddest part about these stars falling victim to vocal issues is that it just doesn’t HAVE to happen. Even on a grueling schedule, it’s possible to take care of your voice and not end up on this seemingly never ending list. For more, check out my recent blogs:
