Why Your Website Matters More Than Anything Else…

by Cari Cole

Why? Because it is your home in cyberspace. And without a home you leave yourself vulnerable and subject to the whims of social

media platforms.

Growing your list on social media sites is important for “social proof” but keep in mind it builds their platform, not yours. Everyone

knows that artists who do not have a dedicated site are not in it all the way. It’s proof that you are not serious about your music –

and — having one is the only way to build your real followers. Plus, social media followers are flakey. It doesn’t take much to click

“like” or follow you on Twitter, but it’s a commitment to hand over your email address.

Here is a quick punch list of the top 3 things you’ll want to have on your website, or you’re losing fans as we speak.

1. A Strategically Placed Email Opt-in

On the upper right of your website (under your banner) is the place to strategically place your “join the mailing list” email opt in.

The upper right is proven in marketing to be where the eye goes and will increase your fan base.

2. A Juicy Free Giveaway

It’s not enough to ask people to “join the list.” Want tons of fans and followers? Give them a really juicy giveaway. How about giving

away your record for the first month of release? Or for an occasional 30 days? Or what about giving behind the scenes footage of

the making of the record, or special handwritten lyrics that you mail out? Make this offer juicy because the most important thing

you do is grow your fan base.

3. A Really Juicy Thank You page

Be sure to have a really juicy thank you page that is automated following subscription. Here you can put current links for new

videos and links to join you on social media and anything else you can think of that’s special. Make sure it has an extra special

“thank you” from you! Your extra love will go far in bonding with your new fan!

This is just the tip of the iceberg to building a successful music website – there is a system to it. Want to know all the details to
