Throughout my practice as a vocal coach I have always utilized athletic techniques as a part of my practice. Singers are athletes of the small muscles of the voice and breathing. The same principles of technique, practice and diet/health apply.
In today’s article I give you the 7 Secrets of an Olympic Performance for musicians. Leave any out and you’ll miss your mark. Use them to deepen your craft and practice. It’s the bedrock of your success.
1. Commitment
It would seem that if you are pursuing your career that you are committed. But do you sabotage that commitment? Do you doubt yourself? Real steadfast commitment means that you commit fully regardless of how you feel. This allows you to push through when your faith wavers (which it will) and hold fast to your vision.
2. An Olympic-level Coach
Every Olympian has an Olympic-level coach. They don’t mess around – can’t afford to. If you’re going to go the distance, get a coach who can take you there.
3. Technique
Technique is the cornerstone to being able to perform on an Olympic level. Period. There is no athlete that doesn’t practice their technique to improve their performance and to be the best at their game. It’s the same for performers – it’s just that it’s not as well known. Every great artist has a great technique, they just don’t talk about it – it’s a secret weapon. Ready to start studying with a technique program that has improved thousands of voices in just one practice? Get started here. Or – get that and a 42 day online virtual bootcamp here in one lump package (save $97).
4. Training Schedule ~ Daily Practice
Olympians train every day – no kidding. It’s really no different for you. In order to be the best, you have to train every day and make your practice non-negotiable. It’s the holy grail of music success.
5. Healthy Diet
Notice how the athletes at Sochi are talking about food as “fuel”? What you feed your body determines how it will https://startupsouth.org/buy-singulair-online/ perform. Feed it crap – you get crap results. Fuel it with the right nutrition and you can perform better than you’ve ever imagined is possible. I highly recommend vegetable juices for a quick fix – and cut the caffeine and sugar people! It’s a false high that only depletes your body in the long haul.
6. Mistakes
Why would mistakes be on this list? If you’ve been watching the Winter Olympics in Sochi, you’ll notice how many mistakes even the best of athletes make. They know that this is a part of the territory of reaching to be the best. You have to be willing to make mistakes in front of everyone and get right back up with a smile on your face. Takes a lot of guts and inner strength. What’s so cool to watch is the camaraderie between the athletes. They know it could just as easily be them. The support between them is powerful.
7. Mindset
At the end of the day, what separates the winners from the losers is mindset. They could have the same technical and artistic ability, but who will win? The athlete who has the stronger mindset. The ability to stay focused and visualize the routine coming to a solid finish is used in Olympic training to improve results. I use the same training with my artists as over the years I’ve noticed how much it helps them and improves performance.
It’s the exact same for singers, artists and performers. Leave anything in the above list out and you’ll crash and burn. Don’t sell yourself short.
