The Artist Breakthrough Formula for 2025: Get Signed, Streamed, and Seen
Every serious passionate artist needs an artist development plan. It is not optional. Without it, months and years will pass without accomplishing what you need to create a career in music. Not having a plan is only delaying the work that needs to be done and further delays your achievements and success.
Artist Development is the process a musician goes through to develop their craft and the skills necessary to build a professional career in the music industry. The process involves vocal training, songwriting, A&R direction, development of sound and direction, artist persona development, image and branding, music and video production, live performance development, marketing message and career planning and strategy.
Is it something you can achieve on your own? Yes. Could you shave years off your climb working with a team like ours? Yes. And doing it alone you run the risk of never reaching your potential goals. Opportunities come from people inside the industry. It is important to build your team of support early on.
As an artist developer I create a plan to help the artist uplevel their music to the level where they stand out in the marketplace. This is necessary to attract the opportunities you need to move forward with your career. Knowing the best next steps is key.
Each artist requires a different approach depending on their level of skill and where they are with their music. It’s quite involved but all under the umbrella of artist development. Voice, songs, artist brand, career.
The perfect place to get started is my 6-week kickstart artist development program here: Step Up to the Spotlight.
Let’s dive into today’s blog and the The Artist Breakthrough Formula for 2025: Get Signed, Streamed, and Seen
1. Visibility
Increasing visibility as a new artist involves several strategies that can help you gain recognition and support. One key approach is to take advantage of every opportunity, treating each engagement with professionalism and commitment, which can attract additional support and exposure.
Gaining visibility is also part of a larger goal. Quality music combined with effective communication can generate interest and lead to media coverage and social network growth.
Try this:
- Your website
- Your social media presence
- Features in magazines
- Performing at conferences, festivals, local events
- Submitting for awards: Songwriting contests, artists awards
- Touring
By implementing these strategies, new artists can effectively increase their visibility and reach a wider audience.
2. A Magnetic Brand
A brand is more than just a logo or a tagline—it’s an identity. As a musician, your brand is a reflection of your music, values, and life story. It’s what sets you apart from the crowd.
While musicians are experts at music, they are generally not experts at branding, even if they have good ideas. It’s best to work with an expert who is experienced in branding musicians. There is a lot of detail here in this profession that is hard to emulate when you don’t have the actual background. And not having a strong visual identity that matches your brand will hold you back.
Try this:
- Focus on visuals. Your visuals are your music at first “glance”. Your visuals should “look like the music sounds” so fans can easily identify whether they are interested or not.
- I like to start with a good solid creative direction. You can consult with a Creative Director who understands how to build brands for musicians. They will start by listening to your music, establishing your message, color palette and general direction of your visuals.
- Photoshoots. Work with photographers that are experienced shooting musicians. There is a special flair they have at building a “look” versus working with a wedding photographer whose focus is on capturing the day.
- Styling. Work with a stylist to pull together a look for you. Often referred by a music photographer, you’ll want to find a stylist that is experienced in working with musicians to help bring a wardrobe that builds an image and visual identity for you as an artist.

3. Broadcast Quality Music
In order to get signed, streamed and seen, you’ll need a full album of extremely well written, performed and produced music that is broadcast quality.
Broadcast quality music refers to recordings that meet high technical standards and sound good on various platforms, including radio, TV, CDs, and online services.
Achieving broadcast quality involves several key aspects:
- Technical quality: The recording should be free of noise and distortion, maintain clarity even at loud volumes, and retain quality after further processing.
- Dynamic range: Sufficient dynamics are important for creating a broadcast-friendly mix.
- Consistency in volume: The volume of the music should be similar to other tracks to avoid listeners having to adjust the volume when your song comes on.
- Audio processing: Proper mastering is crucial, taking into account the specific compression characteristics of the target radio format.
- Equipment and environment: Using high-quality recording equipment and a controlled environment to minimize ambient noise is essential.
- Performance: Ensuring precise and high-quality performances is important, as poor performances can detract from the overall quality.
- Audio standards: Adhering to specific loudness standards, such as -23 to -25 LKFS for the entire length of the program, is important for broadcast distribution.
By focusing on these aspects, musicians can produce music that meets the high standards expected for broadcast quality.
4. Experience
Nothing shouts louder than experience! In order to get signed, streamed and seen, you’ll want to prove that you are in this for the long haul and are not just a green newcomer.
Try this:
- Perform as many shows as you possibly can. Playing 100 shows gets you comfortable in front of audiences and will show your experience and professionalism.
- Perform everywhere: songwriting circles, So Far Sounds, local shows, group shows, local theatres.
- Build your own audience that is not based on covers, but on your own originals.
- Livestream a lot. This allows you to grow your online presence and audience and get more experience performing.
- Build a strong live show. Nothing excites audiences more than attending a show of an artist that has put a lot of effort and thought into the live show.
5. Team
You can only go so far on your own. Every artist needs to build a team of trusted people and it’s helpful to start that process early on. The people you build strong relationships with early on will be your trusted advisors later on.
Try this:
- Work with a music mentor. Someone experienced in the music industry that “gets you” as an artist and is focused on helping you build your talent and career.
- Work with professionals who work in the music industry. Get to know your PRO reps, other songwriters, musicians, producers and get referrals of industry insiders like managers, music publishers, sync and booking agents who can help.
- Attend music conferences to connect with industry professionals and meet new people to add to your team and help you advance your career.
